
Women's Economic Empowerment and Skills Training Workshops
Economic independence is the foundation of a woman's ability to protect herself and her children. This program equips women with practical, marketable skills and access to savings and small-scale finance.
Implementation goals
- Deliver vocational workshops in tailoring, soap making, food processing (shea butter, soumbala, juices), dyeing and small livestock rearing
- Train participants in basic literacy, numeracy, bookkeeping and business management
- Establish village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) and support income-generating activities with starter kits
- Connect women's groups to local markets and cooperatives
Target audience
Widows, single mothers, internally displaced women, young women out of school and women heads of household in Bobo-Dioulasso and surrounding communities.
Expected community outcomes
- Increased and more stable household income
- Greater participation of women in family and community decisions
- Self-managed savings groups that continue beyond project funding
- Reduced vulnerability to exploitation and gender-based violence
